Distant Drums RV Park | Camp Verde, AZ

We escaped the freezing temperatures in Williams, AZ and were happy to find normal cold temperatures in Camp Verde, AZ. Only they weren't normal for Camp Verde. Apparently 40 degrees is considered ridiculously cold. We were content though.

This was our first location where we were going to be parked for an entire week. We found that we really like that length of stay as opposed to 2-3 days. It allowed us to unwind a bit and breathe before packing up to relocate again. We even had time to make new friends!

We met a couple walking their dog and a dinner invitation was accepted. Food, stories, and laughter were shared around a table.

Someone asked me my favorite part of this lifestyle so far and I honestly had to say my favorite part is the people we've been able to meet. All of the new sights and experiences are amazing as well but they are all temporary things. People are eternal beings and they are all so different. (Thank you, Doug and Vera, for sharing meals and stories with us!)

While in Camp Verde we also saw Montezuma Castle and Well. I remember seeing Montezuma Castle when we were in Arizona for a family trip twenty-five years ago. It was still amazing as an adult.

Josh blessed me with checking off one of my wish list items by having an old time family portrait done! The boys loved every minute up until the time they had to take off the cowboy hats and holsters. Jack commented that he felt like he was supposed to have been born in a time when he could've dressed like that all the time. I understand that feeling.

Fun bonus: the photographer gave me the digital files so I photoshopped out the portrait that was actually on the wall and replaced it with Josh's great-great-uncle's union army enlistment photo. 🤗

We took a drive through Sedona and marveled at the rock formations.

On our last full day we drove up to Jerome, AZ, an old mining town, and toured a ghost-town-turned-outdoor-museum. (With a very intimidating yet friendly turkey.)

We were sorry to leave Distant Drums but we had set our sights on California and so we packed up and hit the road again thankful for the time we spent there.
