Meteor Crater | AZ

I think some of my favorite adventures on this journey have been the unplanned ones. Driving through Arizona on our way to the Grand Canyon we passed a billboard for a meteor crater. I mentioned to Josh how I remembered going to a crater as a kid when we were in the RV.

We exited the highway for an unscheduled stop. Turns out it was the same crater from when I was a kid! The landscape was epic, the informative museum made my homeschooling-mama heart sing. We were able to touch an actual piece of the meteor! We saw the point of impact - the most well preserved impact crater on the planet (per their marketing).

And the scenery around the crater was almost as impressive! In the distance we saw a beautiful snow capped mountain which we later learned was called Humphrey's Peak. We drove past it on our way through Flagstaff later that day.

Always be willing to take random exits off the highway. The trip takes longer but its a better trip in the end.
